My open house this weekend is another stunner. Nestled in the crook of 217 and 26 there is a very interesting neighborhood called Vista Hills. Populated by mostly mid-century modern homes ranging from what I term as ‘generically Homes & Garden variety’ (plans bought off the shelf, maybe there was an architect involved at some point) to ‘absolutely stunning’ (definitely designed by an architect of note). In the middle - literally in this case - there is a cluster of ‘carriage houses’ built by developer Mel Hansen in the early ’70’s. I have no idea what drove him to develop these homes, because as far as I know, there’s nothing else quite like it in Portland. All the homes are unique, bound together by one singular idea.
SO! This carriage house is a little bit Hollywood, a little bit Versailles, and given when it was built, a little bit mid-century mod. A one level 3 bed, 2 bath home with soaring ceilings, open plan living and windows for days. The current owners have clearly loved this house, giving it all new systems (roof, plumbing, electrics etc) and what has become a bit of a theme here, a kitchen just begging to be put to good & frequent use. The entire property is walled which is where the Versailles reference comes in. The plantings are meticulous, encouraging a stroll with glass of something delicious in your hand.
Come and see me this afternoon between 1pm and 3pm, stroll through and fall in love!
I am both a Realtor and Interior Designer. I have transitioned from simply selling homes to selling what makes homes beautiful.
