This home was built in 1962 for an art collector and dealer, the architect was Edgar Smith - who didn't build many residences, but those few got lots of national attention. The current owners bought the house over 20 years ago and have carefully added, remodeled and upgraded. It's almost impossible to see where the original house ended and the addition starts. As all good houses tend to be, this is idiosyncratic in its layout: the classic 'NW contemporary' entryway draws you in and gives nothing away, an outdoor space focused on mature plantings and a door. You enter onto a high landing overhanging the formal living room and affording stunning views through the double height windows over the yard and out across the valley. To your right there is a long gallery to the upper bedroom suites. The first was the original master (study/bathroom/bedroom) and further down where the corridor narrows there is more! Another balcony overlooking the double height family room and on to the very zen master suite (large bedroom/spa bath/walk-in closet). Coming back along the gallery the curved wall reveals the entry to garage and crafting room. There is also a spiral staircase down to the kitchen here, but keep going back along to the formal living room and down the cantilivered stairs to admire the fireplace and huge expanse of clear virtical hemlock. The floor here is terrazzo all the way through to the kitchen. Walking around either side of the chimney brings you to the dining room - large enough to seat 25 (just!) and small enough that six feels just fine. On to the kitchen with a central cooks island and seating for 4 at the end - high end appliances and a large walk-in pantry make cooking a snip! Keep going to the lovely family room - again those double height windows, a wet bar and bookcases. Finally it's teenage heaven beyond the family room with two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a dark room or storage.

All along the back wall of the house, everywhere you look there is built-in floor to ceiling storage & beautiful to look at with matching grain.

On the property but not attached is an 'art barn' with glass garage doors that roll up and allow another look at the view across the valley to the coastal range beyond.

All this on over 2 acres of marvelous privacy - only 7 minutes to downtown!!
